Six Rules

3/28/2014

It's been such a long time since I last posted!

I've played so many visual novels in these past two months that I think I can have a barrage of reviews if my mind allows it. Hahaha. Actually, the only reason why I wasn't able to post anything on my blogs was because I was so busy with... life. Haha. But I've just graduated from high school, so now, I have so much free time before college starts. Woohoo.

Anyway, here's one of the VNs I've played. I'll start with this one.

Six Rules is a short story set in Heian Japan period. It's from the same creators of Re: Prince of Nigeria and Ribbon of Green. I just realized I've played most of their completed stories. Haha. Oh, and Coren, the one behind this, also contributed to Doppelganger: Dawn of the Inverted Souls. :) Which... I'm not yet finished playing, so there's no review yet up to now. Hahaha.

Hung on a piece on thread in the foyer, a bamboo scroll read:

Rules
1) You must not let any strangers into the house. Preferably not even the forest where we reside in.
2) If you spot any strangers loitering around the property, alert us immediately.
3) You may converse with strangers as a gesture of friendliness, but never tell them where the house is located. We are hiding for safety, after all.
4) Don't accept things from trespassers. Don't give things to trespassers, either.
5) Never, I repeat, never talk to those of the Taira family.
6) Got it? Don't trust the Taira Clan.

Minamoto no Ryouji, a 12th-century Japanese boy of the Minamoto clan read those rules, and knew them all by heart. Never in his life would he even dream of breaking even one of them. That is, until that one day he met a girl named Yuki in the heart of the winter fields.

Okay, so like I've said, I've played most of Soyasushi Production's games, so... that's mainly the reason why I checked this out. I've always liked their VNs. Haha. Oh, and partly because this game is about kids. :) Cute kids at that. <3

Story-wise, it was captivating. Haha. I was immersed in the story from the moment it started, until the end of the epilogue. It was very heart-warming at first, which really enchanted me. And Ryouji's child-like attitude was very cute and innocent. I thought it was gonna be a simple, childhood friendship that could have bloomed into some cutesy puppy love, but unfortunately, good things must come to an end. Believe me, it was that... cute. Haha. It... does become darker though, mind you. As in really dark. I won't spoil anything for you guys, but I'm telling you, it's... kinda depressing. *sigh*

It's a really short game though, so just give it a try. :) Here's the download link.
